“Get ready with me as I answer commonly asked questions about my adoption.”

Script breakdown26 parts

0:00HookGet ready with me as I answer commonly asked questions about my adoption.
0:04DemoFirst thing people normally ask is, how old was I when I was adopted? And do I remember being in the orphanage? No, I don't. I was 9 months old when…
1:04EvidenceWell, halfway through the adoption process, my parents naturally became pregnant with my sister. My mom ended up giving Birth to her two months…
1:21DemoNext question I get is, how did I know I was adopted? Or when did my parents tell me I was adopted? Well, I'm a transracial adoptee, which means I…
1:36EvidenceBut I think I first recognized that I was different, um, when I was, like, two or three. My mom remembers we were in the car, and I asked her, why…
1:50DemoAnd she remembers that being, like, a really profound moment because she didn't realize I was old enough to kind of, like, recognize we were…
2:09EvidenceAnd although I am the only adopted person in my family, um, I do have one uncle who is adopted, but he's, like, way older, so I'm only talking…
2:20Demoaround my age. Um, it was something that was always celebrated. So we always celebrated my adoption day. We would always do something really special…
2:46EvidenceSo this is nothing against my sister. This is all something I did.
2:49DemoI was very jealous that she wasn't adopted, and I was, although it's not true in my mind, I always viewed her as lucky, because for me, my…
3:07EvidenceUm, and it really, like, elevated those fears because my sister looks identical to my parents.
3:13DemoSo if you look at any of our family photos, she is a literally a carbon copy of both of them.
3:19EvidenceUm, and so growing up, I would constantly hear how much my sister looked like my parents and all that. And because we were close in age, people…
3:28DemoSo I always had a fear that I Was going to be left, even though that wasn't true.
3:33ProblemAnd unfortunately, because I was a kid, I ended up taking a lot of that anger and frustration out on her.
3:38DemoSo we really didn't have the best relationship when we were younger. Um, and it wasn't until we got to, like, high school, college, that we really…
5:18EvidenceWe don't want to do this. Um, and our parents did not push us, but my mom and dad were always very open if I was curious.
5:25DemoBut it was honestly me choosing not to explore that side. Um, and again, I really wasn't interested in even talking about my adoption until, like,…
5:33EvidenceNext question is, why or how did my dad move to China? Well, my dad worked for a company that allowed their employees to put, like, two to three…
5:48DemoAnd so he got the opportunity to submit this list, I guess. Um, and he put three countries down. And I honestly, at this Point. Forget the other two…
6:43EvidenceAnd almost immediately, my mom was like, hold on, wait here.
6:47DemoAnd she went into her closet, and turns out she had been making a scrapbook, um, for me to potentially give to my birth parents if I ever found them…
7:01EvidenceUm, and from there, we ended up doing a DNA test, which was a huge thing to begin with, because my mom was very nervous about, you know, me doing a…
7:12DemoAnd this was, you know, Years ago. Um, and she was very worried with what would happen with my data, which unfortunately is very relevant because we…
7:25EvidenceAnd once my dad got the opportunity to move to China, that's when we were like, okay, that's our sign. We need to do an in person search.
7:33DemoAnd this obviously naturally leads into the sequel of have I found them yet? And why am I even looking for my birth parents to begin with? So number…
